WEEKEND PORTER – JOB DETAILS

Criterion is a busy company with a strong reputation for providing a friendly and professional service. Based in Islington, London.

We have traded for the last 26 years, we’ve seen just about everything! Criterion is an independent auction house with an exciting future ahead.

As a small company, each one of our staff members is hugely important to the success of the business.

If you have experience and would like to join a vibrant team and an auction house that assigns over 800 lots every week. Could you be who we are looking for?

We need a Weekend Porter we offer the opportunity to grow with the Company.

Current duties:
Working as part of a team, you will have responsibilities for, or involvement with, every aspect of the Auction process helping buyers and sellers through our process.

Advising potential vendors and completing the necessary paperwork.

Setting out lots for sale, ensuring that they are accessible and displayed attractively.

Putting lot labels on; ‘stock-checking’ lots to ensure mistakes are avoided.

Assisting the public on viewing days – answering queries, providing condition reports.

Helping buyers, including furniture buyers, to carry their purchases to their cars/vans

Qualities and experience

Ideally, we are seeking someone who customer focused.

A knowledge and/or experience in the auction/antiques industry is desirable.

A friendly, helpful and professional manner; smart appearance.

Effective communication skills when dealing with the public and working as part of a team.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Good attention to detail.

Ability to lift and carry heavy furniture.

A versatile and practical approach, not afraid to roll sleeves up and muck in.

Hours:

20 hours per week a majority of hours working at the weekend, being flexible and willing to work extra hours is essential.

Holiday:  As per statutory holiday entitlement.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

WEEKEND VALUER & CATALOGUER – JOB DETAILS

We need a Weekend Valuer & Cataloguer we offer the opportunity to grow with the Company your role may expand to include some auctioneering, business generation and managerial.

Current duties:

Working as part of a team, you will have responsibilities for, or involvement with, every aspect of the Auction process from accepting items in for sale to helping buyers clear their lots after a sale.Advising potential vendors - what is and is not saleable (in line with Company market positioning), valuing their items and completing the necessary paperwork.

Accurately describing and cataloguing items for sale; doing any further research or seeking other specialist opinion if necessary.

Typing information and descriptions direct into the Auction Software Programme (training will be given).

Setting out lots for sale, ensuring that they are accessible and displayed attractively.

Putting lot labels on; ‘stock-checking’ lots to ensure mistakes are avoided.

Assisting the public on viewing days – answering queries, providing condition reports.

Helping buyers, including furniture buyers, to carry their purchases to their cars/vans.

Qualities and experience

Ideally we are seeking someone to value and catalogue all objects, we are interested in hearing from people from all areas of specialism.

Relevant qualifications, knowledge and/or experience in the auction/antiques industry.

A friendly, helpful and professional manner; smart appearance.

Effective communication skills when dealing with the public and working as part of a team.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Good numeracy and literacy skills, with attention to detail.

Computer literate; knowledge of social media would be an advantage.

Ability to lift and carry heavy furniture.

A versatile and practical approach, not afraid to roll sleeves up and muck in.

Interest or ability in photography would be helpful, but not essential.

WEEKEND ADMIN ASSISTANT – JOB DETAILS

We need a Weekend Admin Assistant we offer the opportunity to grow with the Company.

Current duties:

Working as part of a team, you will have responsibilities for, or involvement with, every aspect of the Auction process helping buyers and sellers through our process.

Advising potential vendors and completing the necessary paperwork.

Updating Saleroom databases in readiness for the sale.

Setting out the necessary paperwork ensuring that they are accessible and displayed ready for the sale.

Taking payments and ensuring accounts are settled quickly

Assisting the public answering queries, providing outstanding customer support.

Answering the telephone and directing all calls to the correct colleague.

Qualities and experience

Ideally, we are seeking someone who customer focused.

A knowledge and/or experience in the auction/antiques industry is desirable.

Effective communication skills when dealing with the public and working as part of a team.
